Looking back on a season of Sorrow and Joy, The NASCAR Awards Banquet, and Seasons Greetings.
Hello and here we are again with another segment of Ticia’s Rants. I know it has been a long time since I have done a rant on this website for everyone to read. I guess I should apologize to those of you who enjoy my rants and
my opinions I just didn’t have the heart to update the rants after the tragic death of Dale Earnhardt. Well let’s look at it this way here I am now and though this really isn’t going to be a rant at least I’m here to spread my cheer. This rant will be the final rant for the 2001 NASCAR season and it will look back on a season of Sorrow and Joy it will also look at the NASCAR Awards Banquet which was held on November 30, 2001 and last but certainly not
least I will offer my Seasons greetings for all of you.
Well time to look back on the season. A season which started out with such promise with the Daytona 500 on February 18, 2001 quickly turned to sorrow with the tragic death of Dale Earnhardt. The driver that we all thought was invincible left us in the blink of an eye and left us all heartbroken and asking ourselves if NASCAR can lose it’s greatest driver what’s to say that we couldn’t lose any driver at any time. I guess what we really learned was
that NASCAR wasn’t invincible after all and that to treasure our favorite drivers because we really never know if it’s going to be the last time we see them. Three weeks after Dale’s death our tears of sorrow turned to tears of joy
when Kevin Harvick racing for only the 3rd time won his first Winston Cup Race. The pain of losing Dale was eased a little bit and I think we all learned at that point that Dale was and is there watching down on us all. In July we went back to Daytona once again for the night race of the Pepsi 400 and once again our tears of sorrow became tears of joy when Dale Earnhardt, Jr. won the race at the same track that his father lost his life not even 5 months
before. Words can’t even begin to describe how happy we were to see Junior when and though most of us cried this time it was tears of Joy and Tears of remembrance. Joy that Junior had won the race and remembrance of the
man he called Dad who had touched our lives for so many years. On September 11, 2001 our nation faced it’s biggest tragedy when 19 cowards decided they were going to terrorize our country by flying airplanes into
buildings killing thousands of innocent people American’s and Foreigner’s alike. It is a day that none of us will soon forget and may God Bless all of those killed and may God Bless America. This season we saw Jeff Gordon
win his fourth Winston Cup Championship and join Richard Petty and Dale Earnhardt as one of three drivers to ever win four or more Winston Cups. Congratulations to Jeff Gordon it was a hard earned Championship and he
deserves credit. We also saw a number of drivers win their first Winston Cup races and we saw Bill Elliott win a race again after 7 years of not winning one which was another Joy for us NASCAR fans to watch. It was one heck
of a Roller Coaster ride this season but it was still fun to watch no matter what.
Now we move on to the NASCAR Award’s Banquet and I don’t even know where to begin when talking about this. It was great to see all of our favorite drivers and NASCAR honor all of the Firemen and Police Officers who opened up our eyes and made us realize what true heroism was when they put their lives on the line to save those in the Twin Towers on September 11 may all these heroes both living and now deceased never be forgotten for the courage they showed us on that fateful day. It was great to see some of the drivers in the top 10 pay homage to those killed on September 11th and to their comrade and friend Dale Earnhardt. The words that they used to express their feelings was fantastic and they deserved to be applauded. Now I must say something to the tribute to
Dale Earnhardt it was great to see Garth Brooks come up on stage and honor Dale Earnhardt by performing his song The Dance. I know that there wasn’t a dry eye in our house and there also wasn’t many dry eyes at the awards Banquet either. It was also great to see Dale Earnhardt win most popular driver which is something that we the fans have known for a long time that Dale Earnhardt was the most popular driver. What can I say about Teresa Earnhardt that would be appropriate I’m going to try to do my best to do so. Teresa Earnhardt is an
inspiration to her family and to Dale’s many fans. She showed us true courage when she stepped onto the stage and made a speech for Dale that touched us all. She truly is a pillar of strength to both Dale’s family and to us his
fans. Teresa just know that we love you just as we have always loved your husband Dale and we thank you for standing up on that stage and telling us how much the award meant to you and what it would have meant to Dale. You truly touched us all.
Now for the final part of this rant and that is my message of Seasons greeting to everyone. To all of our Jewish brothers and sisters out there Happy Hanukah and may you have a joyish holiday this year. To all of our brothers
and sisters who celebrate Christ’s Birth may you all have a Merry Christmas and a joyish time with your families. I know that we all hold our families a little dearer to us this year after all that has happened live is truly to short
not to. Now to one and all may you all have a Happy and Healthy New Year and may this year be the best year of your lives. Until February 17, 2002 and the running of the 2002 Daytona 500 may everyone stay happy and healthy and may God Bless one and all. Here’s to a safe and a great NASCAR season and go Dale Earnhardt, Jr. 2002 is going to be your year!
Sincerely,
Ticia
